Hotel Kirchplatz at St.Anton Am Arlberg
3 star Hotel Garni

We had the good fortune to visit and stay at this 3 star family run hotel located during Christmas 2002. Operated by the friendly family Falch, it is located prominently just opposite the church and a short walk away from the supermarkets and ski lifts.

From the start, this warm and cosy little hotel gives a sense of quiet family warmth. The small reception counter faces the main door, with a small sitting area off to the left, with a computer for internet access, and the dining room off to the right, with sufficient seating for around 20 people.

We had reserved a deluxe room, but first step in and it seemed more like a suite, or at least a decent small apartment. With enough wardrobe space to accomodate at least three suitcases worth of clothes, a plush king sized bed, a separate sunbed, and a sofa with a coffee table, it was big enough to entertain company comfortably. The small TV showed mostly Austrian and German channels, plus BBC and MTV, on which it stayed for the next week.

The bathroom had separate areas for the shower, the sink and the toilet. Most importantly, it was warm, a huge plus in the freezing winter.

Apparently they have an arrangement with a nearby underground carpark to provide parking for their tenants, cos we got to park our little rented Mercedes Benz A160 in a nice warm underground car park just 2 minutes walk down. They also have a sauna and ski warmers down in the basement.

The breakfast was excellent. Choices of cereal, cheese, ham, milk and honey gave us visions of the promised land. Definitely an excellent way to start the day before heading out for some serious skiing.

Around the Hotel

With small Hotel Garni in every direction, each with their own little restaurant, food is definitely not scarce around here. Just 5 minutes walk away is the pedestrain zone with shops, supermarkets and clubs. The supermarkets were a haven for the budget traveller, with choices of sausages, hotdogs, roasted meats. Shopping is fairly affordable, with ski shops at practically every corner.

The two major skischules are within easy walking distance, even within ski shoes.

At 55 Euros per person per night, Hotel Kirchplatz sits in the midrange in terms of costs among the hotels in St. Anton. The rooms are definitely not lacking, though, and worth a consideration.
