St Anton am Arlberg
Europe`s Liveliest Ski Resort

St Anton in the January winter evening

Long hailed as the birthplace of skiing heritage and by the younger generation as Europe`s liveliest ski resort, the Arlberg region of Tyrol stretches from Nasserein in St Anton to St Christoph, to Lech and Zurs. Since 1901, when the Ski Club Arlberg was founded in St. Christoph and hosted the first Arlberg Kandahar ski race in 1928, St. Anton am Arlberg has played host to world championship skiing and is now one of the most popular skiing destinations in the world.

St. Anton lies on the westward end of Tyrol, barely 100 miles away from the famed St Moritz and 5 minutes drive away from the high end exclusive ski resort of Lech.

Lying in the middle of a huge network of ski routes, St. Anton has previously hosted the Skiing World Championships and is also well known as a resort where people ski in the daytime and party by night.

Busy throughout the entire winter season, St. Anton in winter is a hotbed of non-stop activity. Skiers and snowboarders shuffle between the base villages trying different slopes. One gets a sense of a general laid back attitude. Great skiing sets the mood up all day and the young crowds that flock to the region for the Apres ski ensure a good party goes on all night long. Students on a budget can survive on daily hot dogs, weiners and frankfurters, while the well-heeled can enjoy steaming hot Tyrolean cuisine.

Hotel Information and Restaurants

With over 8900 guest beds available, your ski lodging choices range from the budget to the extravagant six star hotels. Over 80 restaurants and taverns will satiate your appetite for good food and beer. The village also boasts over 30 shops and other activities such as ice skating and toboggan runs to round out your ski vacation. The smaller village of St. Christoph is also nearby and connected by ski runs, and a terrific spot to head for an outdoor lunch of spatzle and weisbier.

St. Anton boasts several established luxury hotels, including the Hotel Alte Post, Hotel Arlberg Hospiz and the Hotel Schwarzer Adler. They also boast over a hundred private residences renting out holiday apartments, from single rooms to apartments complete with cooking facilities. The low end starts at 30 euros per person per night, up to over 150 euros per person per night for Hotel Arlberg Hospiz.

St. Anton is as cosmopolitan as ski resorts get, with representative boutiques from major brand names, supermarkets, and cafes and restaurants galore. Shops can also be found in abundance and more luxury boutiques can be found at nearby Lech and Zurs.
